How to recognise an original Longchamp Le Pliage bag

How to recognise an original Longchamp Le Pliage bag

The famous bag Le Pliage is the bestseller of the French fashion house. Because of its popularity, the bag has been counterfeited a thousand times worldwide. And therefore here are the tips for you on how to avoid a fake.

Le Pliage Logo

The famous logo of the label, consisting of a horse and a jockey, should always be positioned exactly centred over the closure button of Le Pliage. Jockey and horse always point to the left on the original logo, so pay attention to such details, because fakes often don’t show exactly these details. The round metal button bears the words Longchamp 1948 on the outside and a modified version of the logo is stamped in the middle of the button.

Lederlasche

On the outside, the material of the leather flap resembles more the structure of a diamond or many small diamonds. Therefore make sure that the pattern consists of relatively straight and diagonal lines. The inside of the leather flap, on the other hand, is slightly roughened but still feels super soft. The button of the original models is marked Original Prym 6/4B, models made after 2013 are marked Longchamp Longchamp. It’s best to check if the logo is pressed slightly through and is also easily visible on the inside, as this is not the case with many plagiarisms.

A close look at the text embossing on the back of the leather flap can also quickly expose fakes. This is because there are two lines of lettering that vary depending on the year of manufacture and model. On new models, the first line contains the inscription LONGCHAMP. On the second line, the exact model of Le Pliage is important. Usually the lettering is composed as follows: LE PLIAGE – MODÈLE DÉPOSÉ. The model type is, therefore, either “SHOPPING”, TYPE “S”, TYPE “M”, TYPE “L” or TYPE “XL”. Make sure that the letters for the respective model name are really given in quotation marks and that the accents on the lettering or the hyphen are not missing. If you have owned your Le Pliage for a longer period of time, this text embossing can vary.

Zipper

The zipper of the Le Pliage zipper once again shows the Longchamp jockey with horse and the inscription Longchamp and the year of foundation 1948. On older models, it is quite possible that it is not the year of foundation that has been attached to the zipper, but the seat of the label, namely Paris and France. The zipper also contains the embossing “YKK” and “T” on the sides and, on some models, additionally “1948”.

Inside the bag of Le Pliage

All original Le Pliage bags are finished with the same colour inside as outside. Also, check if the part of the button inside the bag is reinforced with a round plate. This detail is often ignored by many counterfeiters and can give an important clue whether it is an original or plagiarism.
