Fake-Spotting – How to recognize an original Gucci bag!

Fake-Spotting – How to recognize an original Gucci bag!

Our Fake-Spotting starts into the next round. This time we take a closer look at the bags of the Italian luxury brand Gucci. This label has also been targeted by counterfeiters for years, so we will show you how to avoid fake purchases of Gucci bags.

1. Pattern and material

1. Pattern and material
Original Gucci bags are of course made from the highest quality materials and perfectly finished. Please make sure that bags with the well-known Guccissima logo (“GG”) are always symmetrical and clearly printed. For leather handbags, the logo is always punched and not printed. A close look at the seams and the processing of the threads can also expose a counterfeit, as these are often not processed cleanly in plagiarism.

2. Hot stamping

Label

All Gucci brand bags contain Gucci “® GUCCI made in Italy” lettering, which is always inside the bag. While on newer models this is applied to a leather flap, on older models the embossed leather has been sewn directly into the lining. The logo is also made up of symmetrical letters of the same height. By the way, the left part of the letter “U” is a bit thicker, so it’s best to have a closer look at the lettering because this way you can already see the first signs of fake products.

3. Metal applications

Since all metal parts on the bag are made of solid materials, they should feel heavy. If you discover light-looking applications on the bag, it might be a fake. Also, note that the zippers on the zippers and other metal applications such as snap hooks almost always have the “Gucci” logo on them. The zipper should also be easy to open and close and not get caught, because designer labels like Gucci always make sure their products are perfectly finished and functional.

4. Model number

On the back of the leather flap is a model or serial number on all newer original Gucci bags. The number has 10 to 13 digits and is divided into 2 lines, the first line providing information about the bag model. If a bag does not have a model number, or if it is very thinly printed or stamped, you are most likely not holding an original Gucci bag. If you are unsure of the serial number, check the official Gucci website for the model number your bag should have and compare it to the number in your bag. Also note that on vintage models, the first row of numbers in the model number may be interrupted by a hyphen or a period.

We hope that these tips will help you in your future shopping trips and that you will not fall into the trap of counterfeiters.
