Fake-Spotting – How to recognize an original Burberry scarf

Fake-Spotting – How to recognize an original Burberry scarf

Our fake-spotting starts a new round, this time we take a closer look at the coveted Burberry scarf. For years, this scarf has been the target of counterfeiters because of its popularity. Therefore, we show you how you can avoid a fake purchase with just a few tips.

1. Quality and materials

All Burberry products are manufactured using only the highest quality materials. That’s why the label uses only wool, cashmere, or silk to make the famous scarf. Test the comfort of the scarf, because it should always feel super soft and never scratch. Also pay attention to the color gradient of the stripes, because they should always be clearly separated and straight. Whenever you see a Burberry scarf with an additional pattern, you should always check that it has been woven into the fabric and not printed on it, as this is a sure sign that it is a fake.

2. Label

Another feature that can help determine if it is a fake is the Burberry label, which is always attached directly to the scarf. This is usually sewn on and placed near a corner. Make sure that the label is sewn cleanly and that there are no loose threads. New models usually have the following writing on the label: “BURBERRY”, “Made in Scotland“, “100% CASHMERE“. For vintage models, however, this may vary, so that for older creations “BURBERRY LONDON” or the addition “DRY CLEAN ONLY” was also used. Depending on the material, the Cashmere lettering is also replaced by Lambswool, Merino Wool, Silk, or Linen. As the Burberry scarf is no longer produced exclusively in Great Britain, other countries may be listed instead of Scotland. By the way, current models usually contain an extra label with general information and care instructions for the scarf.

3. Fringes

Schal Burberry

About the fringes of a Burberry scarf you should make sure that individual fringes consist of a maximum of two colors and that these can be clearly distinguished from each other, i.e. do not run into each other. Besides, all fringes of originals are always the same thickness and length and usually do not exceed 7.5 cm in length. The fringes at the end of the bowl are always twisted or braided and should be neatly finished. The end of the bowl should therefore look neither thin nor full of holes.
